Letter to Parents
We are looking forward to being back at Sandy Spring Friends School with their outstanding facilities. Also, we will be having a week at Redland Baptist Church on Muncaster Mill Rd. It only has one modern, air-conditioned gymnasium. I will continue to emphasize in my lectures and in small group instruction the importance of good sportsmanship and being a team player.
The life skills discussions that I integrate into our daily camp schedule will hopefully help your child leave the camp with more than just improved basketball ability. Sports are a great way for children’s self esteem to improve- and this is not just by excelling at the sport- it is by being part of a team and having a positive, caring coach.
Campers come to us in the summer with all different skill levels and experience. Some will move on to be JV and Varsity players (in a variety of sports) but many others hopefully will learn that basketball can be a lifetime activity to share with friends and family. As a teacher and parent I have exposed my students and four children to different sports, taught them the fundamentals and tried to make it exciting for them. It is up to them to decide if they want to make the sacrifice of time to excel- parental pressure can take the fun out of any sport.
My wife, Rosemary, is a pediatric nurse and will work to assure that we have a safe environment for your child. Please do not hesitate to call either of us with any questions.
Sincerely,
Dan Harwood
